Redwood Wedding Magic: The Humboldt Experience

July 7, 2026 Weddings

One of the things we sometimes forget as locals is just how magical the redwoods feel to people seeing them for the first time.

Many of our couples first discovered Humboldt County while attending college here, visiting friends, or taking a road trip along California’s North Coast. Others grew up here before moving away for work or family. Years later, when it’s time to get married, they return because they want to share the Humboldt experience with the people they love.

For many couples, the wedding becomes more than a single day—it becomes a destination weekend filled with favorite places and old memories.

We’ve seen families take guests on favorite hikes through the redwoods, enjoy a boat ride on Humboldt Bay, revisit beloved local restaurants, or simply wander through the small towns that made Humboldt feel like home. Every couple’s itinerary is a little different, but the idea is often the same: “Let me show you why I fell in love with this place.”

The redwoods have a way of stopping people in their tracks. For many visitors, they’ve never stood beneath trees like these before.

One of the nice things about Mitchell Grove is that you don’t have to hike miles into the forest to experience that feeling. The towering redwoods are woven throughout the property, creating beautiful places for photographs, quiet conversations, and those little moments that often become people’s favorite memories of the weekend.

Because Mitchell Grove is a private venue, you won’t find crowds, tour groups, or strangers wandering through your ceremony or your photographs. We host only one wedding each weekend, giving couples the freedom to slow down and enjoy both the celebration and the setting.

For guests traveling from out of town, the wedding often becomes part of a much larger Humboldt adventure.

The Humboldt experience looks a little different for everyone. It might be a quiet walk beneath the trees, an afternoon exploring a favorite local town, sharing a meal at a restaurant that holds special memories, or revisiting the places where a couple first met or fell in love with the area.

Those moments may never appear in the wedding album, but they’re often the stories families tell for years afterward.

A wedding weekend has room for more than a ceremony and reception. It has room for favorite hikes, shared meals, a drive through the redwoods, a boat ride on Humboldt Bay, and the chance to introduce the people you love to a place that’s been part of your story for years.

That’s one of the things we love most about hosting weddings at Mitchell Grove. Couples aren’t just celebrating their marriage—they’re sharing a place that helped shape them.
