We got into DIY weddings organically. Over the years, we noticed so many couples wanted to do things their own way but struggled to find a venue that would let them. When we bought this property in 2013 from a bank, we started DIY’ing projects ourselves — so we understood.
Mitchell Grove is located in Humboldt County, surrounded by redwoods, gardens, and an apple orchard. We welcome couples from all over — not just California, but across the nation and even overseas. Many travel here for the towering redwoods, the laid-back coastal vibe, and our beautiful, cool summer weather — the kind of climate that makes an outdoor wedding comfortable all day long.
Complete Privacy for Your Wedding Weekend
One of the things couples tell us they value most is privacy. We host only one wedding per weekend, so when you’re here, it’s just you, your loved ones, and the vendors you’ve chosen. No other events, no other couples — you have the entire property to yourselves. We also honor the privacy of our couples and do not post images of their weddings without express permission.
A DIY-Friendly Approach (With Support When You Need It)
We like to say we’re “DIY-ish.” We provide the infrastructure, a flexible weekend rental, and behind-the-scenes help when needed. Couples are free to hire from our generous authorized vendor list — or bring in their own family and friends to create the day. We only ask that vendors are insured, professional, and pleasant to work with.
We’ve worked with an incredible range of vendors, from local favorites to out-of-state talent, and we’ve picked up plenty of tips that we love sharing with our couples.
Why a Three-Day Package?
DIY weddings need time. That’s why we offer a three-day package — so you can arrive, set up, and celebrate without rushing. This extra breathing room makes a big difference, especially for families traveling long distances.
