Most couples at Mitchell Grove choose to set up their reception in the Orchard by the hall, and there are a few good reasons why. First, it’s beautiful. The orchard trees provide shade on warm Humboldt County days. For our local couples, even the 70s can feel hot, while out-of-town guests often describe the weather as “perfect.”
As day turns to night, the atmosphere transforms. Twinkle lights are already strung above, ready to glow as the evening settles in, joined by the soft lights around the hall. Guests enjoy the charm of the orchard by day and the magic of the lighting by night.
But it’s not just about beauty — it’s also about practicality. The hall provides nearby restrooms, electricity for the DJ or band, and space for the caterer to work behind the scenes. Some couples set up their reception in front of the gazebo instead, which can be lovely too, but it’s usually still close to the hall for those same reasons.
At the end of the day, the Orchard by the hall gives couples the best of both worlds: beauty, shade, and twinkle lights, with the comfort of full facilities close at hand.
