GPS Will Get You Close—Look for the Sign (the Gold Rock Means You’ve Gone Too Far)

September 27, 2025 Weddings

Finding Mitchell Grove is part of the country charm. Apple Maps will usually bring you right to the top of our road, but Google Maps sometimes likes to get creative and send guests a little too far. That’s why we tell everyone the same simple landmark: if you get to the gold rock, you’ve gone too far.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Mitchell Grove sign at the top of the road. When you see the sign, you’ll be ready to make a left-hand turn onto the driveway. Once you’ve turned in, the redwoods, apple trees, and gardens will let you know you’re in the right place.

We know GPS is great for getting you close, but nothing beats a couple of old-fashioned country directions to make sure you don’t miss the turn. So, if your phone says you’ve arrived but you’re staring at a neighbor’s property instead, just remember the rule of thumb: gold rock means you’ve gone a bit too far—turn back and watch for the Mitchell Grove sign.

Welcome to Humboldt County, where redwood groves meet apple orchards, and where a wedding day begins with something as simple as spotting the turn.

We also get a lot of questions about what size vehicles can make it down our road. Large vehicles come down our road often … please see the short video below.
